They are to represent technology, production and sales. The Yamaha logo is comprised of three tuning forks overlapping one another. It was designed nearly fifty years ago and has remained nearly unchanged to this date, proving to be a timeless design. and the Yamaha Motor Co., showing its universal character, being able to represent pianos, motorcycles, drums and electronics. The Yamaha logo is only slightly different for Yamaha Co. The Yamaha Logo is a good representation of how powerful branding and design can be. However, in 1998 the tuning fork was added on and is now a symbol which denotes quality. There was a period in the late eighties and early nineties when the famous tuning fork was removed in order to bring more attention the name itself. Still to this day the Logo has remained almost unchanged from the original. The tuning fork was used to represent their presence in the piano market. This was created at the time in the 60’s when a common tuning fork was established. Yamaha’s logo has an interesting history, the symbol used for their logo is actually a tuning fork. It was not until 1967 that the first logo was created. While many think of motorcycles and electronics when they think of Yamaha, the company was actually founded by Torakusu Yamaha for his ability to create high quality pianos! While Yamaha still creates top of the line pianos, it was not until about 1954 that Yamaha began entering the motorcycle and electronic markets.

Now it’s time to address the ‘failure-prone V6’ that Thomas was talking about in the Lucerne piece. The intermediate 3.0-liter V6 was dropped after the first year, leaving just the base engine and the 3.6 available. Torque would jump from 172 to 259 lb.-ft. Power ranged from 182 horsepower in base form to 280 horsepower in the top-of-the-line CXS trim (renamed after 2011). The 2.4-liter Ecotec inline-four base engine arrived soon after. The second came later when Buick presented a fix to the premium V6 option.įor context, the second-generation LaCrosse debuted with two six-cylinder variants a 3.0-liter V6 (fine) and 3.6-liter V6 (supposedly less fine). The first of which was that cross-Pacific design showcased the future of Buick. It continued to sell in solid numbers in subsequent years, but never to this level again. Numbers would dip slightly in 2011 before rebounding in 2012 with 62,304 sold. US popularity soared from 27,818 units sold in 2009 to 61,178 cars in 2010. It was a clean, contemporary take on midsize luxury to ensure buyers would cross-shop the Buick LaCrosse against the Lexus ES. That face served grace in a design era before turn signals on bumpers were a thing (looking at you, Hyundai). Sure, it didn’t have a bench seat like your grandpa’s Buick but when it looks like this, who cares? I haven’t seen a car make such a marked point of refinement from one generation to the next. In design alone, this car should receive the Most Improved award. Minimal things like door handles and fog lamps were added, but the transition from turntable to showroom was nearly seamless. The major styling elements of the prototype carried over to the production car, resulting in a near-perfect copy job. There was a 10-month gap between the Invicta concept and the second-gen LaCrosse debuting at the North American International Auto Show in January 2009 as a 2010 model. This meant per the New York Times, the second-gen LaCrosse was to be a “collaboration between designers in the United States and China, in partnership with the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center.” In other words, it needed overseas appeal from the get-go. For Buick, this meant taking the first steps to fight back against the perception that only the elderly population drive them. But thanks to lasting popularity in China, the brand survived the axe faced by Hummer, Saab and Pontiac. If it wasn’t for demand in a certain east Asian country, it would’ve never survived the transition into the 2010s. See, Buick almost didn’t make it out of the Great Recession. The first LaCrosse had a rather short production cycle of a few years before we got a glimpse of what came next, partly because Buick had a very powerful asset. By 2007, that number was virtually cut in half. First-year sales of the LaCrosse peaked just shy of 100,000. Reviews of it weren’t groundbreaking, but reception was warm enough in the moment. In all, the LaCrosse was an early attempt to modernize an aging sedan lineup that hadn’t caught up with the world yet. It also carried over the tried-and-true 3800 Series V6 that throws back to archaic times. This time, it rode on the W-body chassis that supported the Century/Regal twins. Like the LeSabre, the LaCrosse would ride on a modified platform that dates back to several years. The Lucerne would ease the transition as the laid-back, bench-seated cruiser, but the Buick LaCrosse came first. They are not used for meat due to their smaller size, like most chickens on this list. This chicken usually weighs less than 2 pounds and lays about 160 eggs a year. They aren’t large enough to produce meat and only lay tiny eggs, so they aren’t the best for eating.ģ. These chickens are most useful as pets or exhibition chickens. They aren’t a great first chicken, as they require active and particular care. They aren’t incredibly hardy birds, and we only generally recommend them for experienced people. They can be susceptible to diseases and the weather. These chickens are perfect mothers and will raise their babies without any issues. It is also called the “Booted Bantam,” though this name is only prevalent in the states. This bird has a six-inch-long feather covering its feet, partially why it is named the “Sablepoot” in many parts of the world. Their eggs genuinely are smaller than most, so that is something to keep in mind if you’re looking to purchase one. These birds weigh less than 2 pounds and usually lay 150–180 tiny eggs a year. However, it is also one of the hardest to find today, making it a bit expensive. They have entirely black skin and bones, leading to some interesting conversation if they are ever slaughtered for meat.Ī post shared by Thezooatnumber3 type of Bantam chicken is one of the oldest in the world. They also come in many different colors so that they can add quite a bit of interest to your backyard. They look like little puffballs, which indeed is part of the reason they are so popular. For this reason, they work great when paired with less motherly breeds as well. They will easily sit on eggs that aren’t there, thanks to their predisposition to go broody. They begin laying eggs around 20 weeks of age and are great mothers. The United States is the only place you’ll find the smaller version of this chicken, though the full-sized counterpart is found in other countries. They are incredibly docile and fluffy to boot. They are probably one of the most popular smaller chicken breeds because of their laidback nature. They are not considered meat chickens, though they are sometimes considered a delicacy in Asia. Silkie Chicken Image Credit: Jirachat Prapan, Shutterstock In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the most popular small chicken breeds. To put it short, there are many reasons to raise small chickens. They usually require less food due to their smaller stature, though they may be a bit more sensitive to outdoor elements as well. They are generally egg-laying breeds since a small chicken will not produce much meat no matter what you do. Due to their smaller size, smaller chicken breeds are often perfect for hobbyists and backyards. The El Rancho Vegas and The Last Frontier were full service hotel casinos, and already open on what would become known as The Las Vegas Strip. Wilkerson then hired George Vernon Russell to design a hotel influenced by European style. Route 91, or about a half mile south of the Hotel Last Frontier, in preparation for his vision. In 1945, Wilkerson purchased 33 acres (13 ha) on the east side of U.S. Wilkerson was the owner of The Hollywood Reporter as well as some very popular nightclubs on the Sunset Strip: Cafe Trocadero, Ciro's and La Rue's (Hollywood). In 1944, Margaret Folsom bought the tract for $7,500 from Squires, and she then later sold it to Billy Wilkerson. Squires paid $8.75 per acre ($21.6/ha) for the land. The Flamingo site occupies 40 acres (16 ha) originally owned by one of Las Vegas's first settlers, Charles "Pops" Squires. History Land background and hotel design (1945) After opening in 1946, it has undergone a number of ownership changes. The Flamingo has a Las Vegas Monorail station called the Flamingo & Caesars Palace station at the rear of the property. It is also the last remaining casino on the strip that opened before 1950 that is still in operation. The hotel was the third resort to open on the Strip and remains the oldest resort on the Strip in operation today, and it has been since 2007 with the closure and demolition of The New Frontier. Staying true to its theme and name, the hotel includes a garden courtyard which serves as a wildlife habitat for flamingos. The architectural theme is reminiscent of the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne style of Miami and South Beach. The property includes a 72,299-square-foot (6,716.8 m 2) casino along with 3,460 hotel rooms. It is owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment. She added that the SYKY collective designers lie “at the vanguard of digital design” harnessing “skills from VR sculpting to AR garment visualization to create footwear accessories and apparel.” “It’s not some dark dystopian vision of the future,” she said of digital fashion, “it’s democratizing access to this industry.” Okay okay, I'm done now.She said that, at the start of her career, Katrantzou, who is known for her digitally created prints, had taught herself Photoshop, using her mouse as a paintbrush. Send a PSD to anyone literally anyone and the email reciept response message will be a request for additional files. Here's me thinking - unhuh, cause client-side is gonna open a PSD and click through layers. I had a dummy manager who insisted he couldn't send multiple files to a client for approval because multiple attached files would apparently confuse and overwhelm the average human brain. Keeping all the assets in the same PSD was like pre-CMS file management. Look at actual website graphic-buttons from those days, you'll see freehand edges - because they came from Photoshop.Īlways assumed the practice was made protocol by a nondesiger - management. Web production my age will remember being delivered entire PSD mockups with the understanding WE in production would simply use the cut tool to "slice" the parts we needed. If pride gets in the way, one might fail to learn, and then corners don’t get cut, but jobs do.Ī million years ago - 1999 to 2005ish say - it was an industry standard practice to make all the collaterals graphic-assets in a single PSD. And that’s just something I think needs to be learned, not taught. I survived through tons of rounds of layoffs because I rarely had a need to cut corners because I usually used the best tool for each project. I’ve worked in high pressure environments where corners were sometimes cut to meet deadline and efficiency was so key that, yes, you absolutely needed to use the proper tool to get a job done right. I also worked with a young guy who was just out of college for illustration and - guess what! - he insisted on doing everything in illustrator. He was at that age where he knew everything and refused any sort of advice from me (hell I’d only been a professional graphic designer for 20 years so my advice was worth nothing…) My stepson wanted to do graphic design in college and he dropped out because he couldn’t stand using any program other than photoshop. I think it has to do a lot with inexperience and misplaced pride. To this day that makes absolutely no sense to me. He said that printers always prefer Illustrator files and he's never heard of anyone using Indesign for this type of project. We politely mentioned that Indesign would have been a more efficient program for this, but he would have none of it. Programs kept crashing, it took an insane amount of time to save files, hours of time wasted watching the spinning wheel, etc. He was literally laying out hundreds of spreads using Illustrator artboards with embedded images and now I had to do the same. The in-house designer responded and asked that I send Illustrator files instead, as that is what he is using. I did about 80 pages and sent along the packaged up Indesign files to add to theirs. It blows my mind the amount of people who still use it to design logos or posters with a ton of type.Īn old client of ours would do a 300+ page product catalog every year. I think it's usually the first program designers start playing around with and most beginners or casual designers just feel more comfortable.
